Jack's Story

Jack, a skilled ceramic master and professional photographer, hails from Changsha, Hunan. Growing up in a modest family near a traditional dragon kiln, Jack was captivated by the artistry of tea cup creation. As a curious child, he often sneaked into the kiln area, marveling at the master artisans as they shaped, glazed, and fired their creations. This fascination soon grew into a profound obsession.

Driven by his love for the craft, Jack began learning to make tea cups. The journey was not easy; he encountered countless failures in his early attempts. Yet, his passion never wavered. Each setback became a lesson, and over time, his perseverance paid off. Jack eventually became a renowned ceramic artist, celebrated for his deep knowledge of the craft and his ability to innovate while respecting tradition. His reputation earned him the nickname "walking encyclopedia of ceramics," as his expertise covered every aspect of tea cup creation, from historical techniques to modern interpretations.

 

Alongside his mastery of ceramics, Jack discovered a second passion: photography. Initially, it was a hobby that allowed him to capture the beauty of his ceramic works, but it quickly grew into a professional pursuit. Jack’s talent in photography was recognized on a national level when he won the 15th China Photography Gold Award. His ability to capture the essence of moments also led him to join the photography team for the 24th Winter Olympic Games, a milestone that further cemented his reputation as a multifaceted artist.

Jack and Jason met during a ceramics exhibition in Hunan, where Jason was showcasing his family’s Tongguan Kiln tea cups. Jack, intrigued by Jason’s dedication to preserving and innovating the Tongguan legacy, struck up a conversation. The two discovered a shared passion for tea cups and a mutual respect for craftsmanship. This initial connection blossomed into a collaboration where Jack brought his deep technical expertise to refine Jason’s designs, ensuring that every tea cup met the highest standards of quality and artistry.

Jack’s photography also played a crucial role in their collaboration. His skillful images captured the elegance and craftsmanship of the tea cups, helping to showcase their work to a broader audience. Together, Jack and Jason bridged the gap between tradition and modernity, celebrating the rich heritage of Chinese ceramics while making it accessible and appealing to the world.
